BASIX Certificate
A BASIX (Building Sustainability Index) Certificate is a mandatory requirement for most residential development applications in New South Wales. It ensures new homes, alterations, and additions are designed to be energy and water efficient, reducing long-term environmental impacts and household utility costs.

The BASIX assessment measures key sustainability targets for water use, energy efficiency, and thermal comfort. Applicants must demonstrate compliance through design choices such as efficient fixtures, insulation, glazing, and landscaping. Once the required performance targets are met, a BASIX Certificate is generated and lodged with the Development Application or Complying Development Certificate.

For town planners, obtaining a BASIX Certificate is an essential step in the approval process, ensuring projects align with NSW Government sustainability standards and contribute to more liveable, environmentally responsible communities.
